The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) was established in 2002 as the country’s authority on sustainable buildings, communities and cities. The organisation’s vision is to “create healthy, resilient and positive places for people and the natural environment.” In 2003, the GBCA launched the Green Star – a national, voluntary system for rating sustainable solutions in design and construction.
At StoneSet, our model is based on providing sustainable infrastructure solutions for commercial builders that meet the GBCA standards of excellence in green building products.
WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH “GREEN” LANDSCAPING
Our “built” environment, which consists of structures from individual buildings to entire communities, is responsible for about a third of our water consumption. Despite living on one of the driest inhabited continents, we are among the highest consumers of water per capita in the world. Climate change has made rainfall less predictable and that means saving fresh water is a priority.
In our residential and business districts, the tendency is to turn up the sprinkler systems during periods of drought. Master gardeners can advise practices and plant species that reduce the water use for outdoor lawns and gardens, but it is equally, if not more important to install landscaping features that inherently conserve our water.
Conserving water in residential and commercial landscaped settings means collecting it in the immediate location and preventing loss through evaporation.
StoneSet is a permeable ground surface designed to quickly absorb water runoff into the soil below. It reduces moisture loss by creating a protective barrier between the soil and the arid atmosphere. It is used in place of other types of hard landscaping materials that force water runoff into storm sewers and waterways. It successfully replaces hardscaping materials meant to endure foot and vehicular traffic, including:
- Paving stones
In support of the GBCA, we are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our communities. The StoneSet system increases the usability and beauty of our community infrastructures while conserving precious water.
