Prep. Mix. Lay.

Because StoneSet is mixed and laid on site, resurfacing old surfaces becomes simple and flexible. There’s no need for levelling compounds or sand-and-cement screeds bumps and undulations can be corrected during installation, as long as you maintain the minimum depth. All you need before transforming your surface is a stable base and an edge to finish against. If you’re overlaying old tiles or pavers, be sure to add fibreglass mesh to your order. For any open edges, just fix a suitable edging, such as aluminium angle we have purpose-designed options available if you need them.

When creating a fully permeable surface, start with a permeable base. This might be drainage aggregate, FCR or road base. The key requirement? Ensure both the StoneSet layer and the base material are properly retained. Timber edging, steel garden edging, masonry blocks or similar options all work perfectly. Combine the best of hard and soft landscaping the usability, safety and low maintenance of a hard surface, with the environmental and drainage benefits of a soft one to create your fully permeable StoneSet surface.

Going vertical?

If your project includes stairs, pool copings, retaining walls or any vertical surface you’d like to finish in natural stone, our VertiStone system is the solution. Designed with a thicker, higher viscosity resin, VertiStone provides exceptional adhesion on vertical faces — allowing you to carry your StoneSet finish seamlessly up or down walls, steps and edges, or use it on entirely vertical areas as a standalone application.

Unlike our DIY Kits, VertiStone requires a primer to ensure secure adhesion during installation. Once primed, the material is trowelled on in the same clean, consistent way as our standard surfaces, giving you a premium natural stone finish even in the most challenging areas.

DIY kit & VertiStone FAQ’s

Can I use DIY Kits on vertical surfaces?

DIY Kits aren’t designed for vertical applications — the resin can’t be trowelled onto upright surfaces. For stairs, pool copings, retaining walls or any vertical areas, you’ll need our VertiStone system. Just add a VertiStone kit in the same stone colour to your order and you can continue your finish seamlessly up or down your project.

What is the minimum depth of lay for DIY resurfacing?

Minimum depths depend on the stone size you choose:

  • 6mm stone: 16mm

  • 4mm stone: 14mm

  • 3mm stone: 12mm

These depths allow the material to be properly compacted and ensure a strong, long-lasting finish.

How should I mix the material?

For best results, tip the stone and resin into a large flexi tub, then mix thoroughly using a paddle mixer or a mixer attachment on your drill. Once blended, use gauntlet gloves to knead the material by hand — this helps ensure every stone is evenly coated without any ‘resin rich’ sections before you start laying.

Can I drive on DIY Kits?

DIY Kits are not generally recommended for a full driveway resurface. They use a 1K polyurethane system that performs exceptionally well for foot-traffic surfaces, but for driveways or commercial use you’ll need our StoneSet Premium UVR, which is engineered for vehicle loads and long-term durability.

What is the minimum depth of lay for DIY permeable paving?

When installing over a permeable base such as drainage aggregate or compacted road base, we recommend a minimum depth of 25mm. This ensures proper stone coverage, strength and long-term permeability.

Do I need primer for VertiStone?

Yes. Unlike DIY Kits used on flat, horizontal surfaces, VertiStone does require a primer to ensure strong adhesion on vertical areas. DIY Kits do not need primer for standard horizontal applications.

Pour On Gravel Binder

PourOn Gravel Binder is the quick, easy way to lock loose stones in place. Supplied as a simple pour-over resin, it turns messy, shifting gravel into a neat, stable, low-maintenance surface without losing the natural look you love. In just two light coats, you can transform garden paths, side accessways, bin areas or decorative gravel zones into surfaces that stay put, stay permeable and stay beautiful.

Level. Set. Pour.

Pour On works by flowing through the stones and binding them from within no heavy mixing and no need to disturb your existing gravel. Whether you’re solving problems in an old, existing loose stone area or installing new decorative stone, Pour On helps prevent movement, compaction and weed growth, all while keeping the area fully permeable.

Installation is simple: start with clean, dry, washed stone (6–20mm), placed at a depth around 2.5–3× the stone size. Once raked level, Pour On is applied in two light coats, with a trowel pass during application for the most consistent finish.
Application rates are:

  • 1.5kg/m² for decorative use
  • 2kg/m² for light foot traffic
  • 2.5kg/m² for high foot traffic

With minimal tools, minimal prep and often no excavation required, Pour On is an accessible solution for homeowners wanting a tidy, safer, longer-lasting gravel surface, all while preserving the natural charm that loose stone brings to outdoor spaces.

Pour On Gravel Binder FAQ’s

Can I use a watering can for application?

No. Unlike lower-quality water-based binders, our high-grade Pour On resin is thicker and won’t flow properly through a standard watering can. For an even application, we recommend using a bucket with evenly spaced 3mm holes drilled in the base to create a consistent pour pattern.

Can I use this on stone larger than 20mm?

It’s best practice to stick to the recommended size, however it’s been done many times before. Our recommended stone size of 6–20mm provides the best binding performance and the strongest matrix between the stones. Larger stone can be used, but it should be approached with care. You’ll still need to achieve a depth of 2.5–3× the stone diameter, and be aware that bigger stones may reduce matrix strength, especially in areas with foot traffic.

Does it matter if the stone is wet?

Yes, Pour On should never be applied to wet or damp stone. Always ensure the stone is completely dry and that the area has had at least 48 hours of dry weather before application.

How long does it last?

Pour On’s lifespan depends on the quality of installation and the level of foot traffic, but under typical residential use it will generally last around 5 years before needing a simple top-up coat to refresh and maintain stability.

Do I need to mix it with anything to activate?

No mixing is required. Pour On is ready to use straight from the container, simply pour it as is. Once applied, it will begin curing immediately and will set within 24 hours under normal conditions.

Spray, mix or pour.

Unlike our other StoneSet resin systems, Gravel Binder Light uses a transparent, water-based acrylic copolymer that provides a gentle but effective hold on loose stones. It maintains excellent clarity, resists weathering and cures with minimal surface tack preserving the clean, decorative appearance of your gravel.

For best results, start with clean, dry stone (4–10mm recommended) on a firm, permeable base. Binder Light can be applied in three ways depending on your project:

  • Pour-On Method — Ideal for existing loose gravel, applied at approx. 1L/m² per coat, with two coats recommended.
  • Spray-On Method — Perfect for purely decorative zones or deco granite, applied with a manual or airless sprayer in two light coats.
  • Premix Method — Best for new areas or slightly higher foot traffic, blending 1 part binder to 20 parts stone before laying and lightly compacting.

Applied in dry weather and allowed to cure between coats, Gravel Binder Light provides a tidy, low-maintenance finish that keeps small decorative areas looking sharp without locking the stone too rigidly. It’s the simplified, cost-effective way to enhance the usability and appearance of your loose stone, while keeping things easy for DIY.

Gravel Binder Light FAQ’s

Can Gravel Binder Light be used for regular foot traffic areas?

Yes, however you won’t get the same level of durability that you will using our Pour On Gravel Binder formula, meaning it will require topping up far more frequently. If you are using it for such applications, the mixing method is recommended!

Is Gravel Binder Light suitable for commercial projects?

It can be, however only for decorative applications such as planter boxes and garden beds.

Can Gravel Binder Light be diluted with water for easier useability?

Absolutely, unlike our other resin systems, Gravel Binder Light is a water-based system, making it perfectly suitable for water dilution. In fact, we recommend it for watering can and spray on applications.
