Project summary
Building a home can be exciting, terrifying & confusing all at once. As building codes & regulations evolve, navigating the “new” can feel overwhelming.
In the bushland-rich suburb of North Turramurra an increasingly popular area for those wanting a peaceful, leafy lifestyle on the fringe of Sydney this homeowner constructed a stunning residence positioned at the rear of their 1200m² block, accessed via a long, secluded driveway.
With the shift from traditional bushland to modern residential development, the area now carries stricter requirements around elements like fire ratings, vegetation management & permeability.
To meet the permeability requirements, the homeowner needed a compliant permeable driveway that would:
- prevent excessive stormwater runoff down the sloped driveway,
- support the local ecosystem, &
- ensure the designated 393.60m² maximum hard surface allowance could be met without reducing the home’s footprint or compromising on a functional driveway.
The homeowner engaged StoneSet seeking a surface that would complement the architectural brilliance of the home, deliver extraordinary kerb appeal, meet compliance requirements & perform with the durability expected of any hardstand driveway.
By combining an admixture no-fines concrete (permeable concrete) capable of achieving 25+ MPa, with our high-performance natural stone wearing course, the engineering & design solution was seamless.
In the end, the homeowner achieved kerb appeal beyond what they imagined turning what is often considered a frustrating compliance hurdle into a true asset. With StoneSet, permeability wasn’t a limitation, but a feature that elevated the home.

| Toxic impact of material | StoneSet products contain no PFAS or organofluorine compounds, based on raw material declarations and supplier data. StoneSet UVR PU4844 is a two-part system made from a plant oil-based resin and HDI oligomer hardener, which cures to form an inert polyurethane. Any unreacted HDI rapidly reacts with moisture to form a non-reactive substance, meaning no active chemicals are leached during application, curing, or in-service use. The final product is non-toxic, non-leaching, and poses no risk of bioaccumulation or bioconcentration in the environment. A primary component of the two component binder is a crop oil making up 37% of the PU4844/60. |
| Design life | StoneSet’s high-performance natural stone wearing course comes with a 10-year guarantee and has been independently engineered with a design life well beyond 25 years when routine maintenance is observed. Beneath it, the permeable concrete base offers a matching design life in excess of 25 years creating a structurally robust, fully integrated permeable system.
When used in a standard residential driveway application, the combined performance of these layers places the system on the same longevity trajectory as high-quality conventional hardstands such as architectural concrete or asphalt, with the added environmental benefits of permeability. |
