The most reliable base layer for resin bound paving

Key features & benefits

Engineered for strength & stability. Formulated with high-quality aggregates and non-UV binder to create a robust, load-bearing matrix layer that underpins the durability of resin bound surfaces.

Permeable & free-draining. Designed to allow water to flow through freely, reducing surface water build-up and ensuring compliance with SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) principles.

Optimised for base layer performance. Provides the ideal foundation for resin bound paving systems, helping to prevent settlement, cracking, or water retention issues in the finished surface.

Versatile applications. Suitable for use under driveways, pathways, courtyards, patios, public spaces, and commercial installations where strength and permeability are essential.

Consistent mixing & application. Specially designed for use in forced action mixers, ensuring thorough bonding of aggregates and a uniform, stable base structure.

Efficient installation. Fast-curing properties allow contractors to lay the matrix and progress quickly to the resin bound surface, minimising downtime on site.

Low maintenance foundation. Provides a weed-resistant, durable sub-layer that supports the longevity of the finished paving with minimal upkeep.

Proven in the field. Developed and refined through years of application across Australian conditions, delivering reliable performance under heavy use and varying climates.

Backed by StoneSet expertise. Supported by StoneSet’s technical guidance and warranty options, giving installers and clients confidence in long-term results.

FAQs

Your resin questions answered

Can I use it as a finished surface?

Yesm but it has limited life and visual appeal. It is recommended to user StoneSet Premium UVR as your hard wearing, long lasting surface finish.

Is it toxic?

No, StoneSet resin systems are PFAS free & inert once cured.

What are polyurethane resins and why are they used in paving?

Polyurethane resins are versatile, durable binders used to bond aggregates in resin bound paving. They offer flexibility, excellent adhesion, and resistance to chemicals, water, and temperature extremes, making them suitable for both residential and commercial applications.

What’s the difference between Premium (UVR) and base (Non-UV) resin?

Premium UVR resin is fully UV resistant and remains transparent, preserving the original colour of the aggregate. Base (Non-UV) resin is not UV stable and will yellow over time when exposed to sunlight, which can alter the appearance of your paving. Base resin is still hardwearing and when protected from UV exposure make a great permeable base mix capable of taking loads up to 10,000kg.

Will the permeability lead to sinkholes/undermining of the sub grade?
No, when the subgrade is properly graded to manage excess water flow and topped with adequate depth of free flowing crushed rock.
Is it stronger than concrete?

In pure compressive MPa terms, concrete can achieve higher numbers at largely due to it’s typical thickness being over 3x that of a resin bound matrix base.

However, strength alone doesn’t determine long-term performance. Concrete is rigid and brittle, once movement occurs, it cracks. StoneSet’s Drainage Matrix is engineered as a flexible, load-distributing permeable base. It can absorb moderate ground movement and thermal expansion without cracking, maintaining structural integrity where rigid concrete may fracture. In applications subject to movement, root growth, minor settlement (particularly important for permeable systems!) or temperature change, this flexibility will result in greater crack resistance and durability over time.
